Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Alma Betsill

After attending elementary school and middle school in Douglas County, Mrs. Betsill loves having the opportunity to work in the community in which she was raised. Mrs. Betsill has been a teacher for six years, and has worked as a fifth grade math and science teacher at Mason Creek since 2015. She recently completed her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and plans to pursue a specialist degree.

 

At Mason Creek Elementary, Mrs. Betsill serves in many leadership roles. She is the fifth grade team leader as well as a member of the school’s Stem Advisory Board. She is the Partner in Education site coordinator, where she enjoys working with members of the community to provide opportunities and incentives for students. Mrs. Betsill is the science fair coordinator for Mason creek as well as a Google Gravity Games sponsor, where she has led her students to a first place and second place victory. She loves working with students to developing critical thinking skills while fostering a competitive spirit. Mrs. Betsill has also served as mentor to new teachers and student teachers. 

 

Mrs. Betsill is passionate about building positive relationships with students and their parents, which she believes is the foundation for student success. She teaches with the knowledge that every child should be afforded a positive and productive learning environment by a teacher who respects and cares for their well-being, both personally and academically. No matter the challenge, Mrs. Betsill is passionate about each of her students and her school.
