ROAD RUNNERS

WHAT IS IT?

Road Runners is a running program that originated in 1993 by Kelly Williams, a Physical Education teacher at Lithia Springs Elementary, in Douglasville, Georgia. Since then, Road Runners has been incorporated into 9+ schools in Douglas County, making this program one of the largest running groups in the state of Georgia.  

The purpose for Road Runners is to not only promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles, but to provide an after school running enrichment program for children, that offers the opportunity to improve running knowledge and skills, to participate in running events, and to give children a chance to meet other students in the school and the community. The program is also designed to be a self-esteem builder for children, giving them a feeling of success when he/she finishes a race and challenging them to improve their personal run times for future events.

ROAD RUNNER EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) Maintain academic and behavioral responsibilities.
2.) Attend all practices unless excused by a doctor or parent note.
3.) Run a minimum of 4 scheduled races, including our own 1st Annual 5K and Fun Run that we will be hosting on November 7. 

(This race will be required for all Mason Creek Road Runners.)
4.) Be prepared to run on practice days.
5.) Have a GREAT attitude!
6.) Have FUN!

WHAT WILL PRACTICE LOOK LIKE?

Practices will be held after school on Wednesdays, from 2:45-3:45, RAIN OR SHINE!

The following is a typical agenda that will be followed at most practices. 
1.) Welcome and announcements, discuss upcoming races, runner SHOUT OUTS
2.) Warm-up and Stretching
3.) Cardiovascular Exercise (20-30 minute activity ranging from long run days, interval training, and/or various running related games.

PRACTICES WILL END AT 3:45. AT THIS TIME, STUDENTS WILL EITHER NEED TO BE PICKED UP OR HE/SHE CAN REPORT TO ASP.

****NOTE: IF YOU FEEL YOU CANNOT PICK UP YOUR CHILD BY THIS TIME, PLEASE SIGN HIM/HER UP FOR ASP SO WE CAN AVOID ANY PROBLEMS THAT MAY ARISE. REGISTER THE FAMILY FOR $10. THE COST PER CHILD TO STAY IS $8.00. INFORMATION FOR PRE REGISTERING FOR ASP CAN BE FOUND ON OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE!

*DUE TO WEATHER, NOVEMBER 17 WILL BE THE LAST PRACTICE FOR THE FALL. PRACTICES WILL TENTATIVELY START BACK MARCH 2.

RACES

A schedule of races will be provided at the first practice. Most Road Runner races are hosted by other schools throughout the county and take place on weekends. You will be responsible for transportation to and from the races. All forms for upcoming races will be given out at practice and can also be accessed online.. Cost for each race is approximately $12.00 - $25.00, and usually includes entry registration and a race t-shirt. 

COST to REGISTER $25.00

THIS FEE INCLUDES:
$10 REGISTRATION FEE, $8 FOR EACH ADDITIONAL CHILD
