We’re celebrating some great attendance progress! 🎉 January brought fewer tardies than December—even with more school days on the calendar. While absences did increase, we’re looking ahead with optimism. With better weather on the way and (fingers crossed!) flu season winding down, we can’t wait to see more of our Wolf Cubs learning and thriving here in February. Let’s keep the momentum going! 🐾💙

January Attendance

Greatness grows here every day. Read what our students in Dr. Knowles' Kindergarten class shared what that means to them.

Yari - "Dr. Knowles taught me about addition and subtraction. She had me play with blocks that helped me do it."

Cali - "Dr. Knowles taught me how to read. I learned at school and practiced my sight words at home. She taught me sight words and how to sound out other words."

Wyatt- "Dr. Knowles taught me how to read. She let me stay at her table and helped me as long as I needed until I was able to read."

Did you know we are lucky enough to have two school counselors in our building? 💙 That means two days of celebrating!
Today we’re spotlighting our compassionate and dedicated counselor, Ms. Pate, who serves our students in HAVEN, but is always ready to jump in wherever she’s needed. We are so thankful for her dedication, kindness, and unwavering support of our students and staff.

Ms. Hale

We build greatness daily - Every day at our school is a chance to learn something new, push a little further, and become a little better. Our students experience that growth firsthand—and these third graders in Ms. Watts and Ms. Ewing's classes say it best themselves.

Will - "My teacher helped me learn fractions. Ms. Watts helped me believe in myself when I thought it would be hard and she showed me it's easy."

Jiya - "I learned how to use quotation marks in writing because in Ms. Ewing showed me how to add them to a story I wrote."

Karmen - "Ms. Watts taught me fractions on number lines and that helped me get a 100 on iReady lessons because she showed me how to do it."

Greatness isn’t built in a single moment—it’s built daily. In our classrooms and hallways, students are learning, growing, and rising to challenges every day. Here’s what that journey looks like for 5th graders in Mr. Lockett and Dr. Lee's classes, in their own words.

Alana - "I used to not like math which made me not very good at it. Dr. Lee has shown me easier ways to do it, which has helped me improve and like math."

Mia - "I have shown growth on iReady this year. I give credit to my teachers for really pushing us and teaching us new ways to think."

Beatrice - "I have grown in reading because Mr. Lockett pushes me to do my best. He has given us practice to do better. I also read a lot now so I can log it in Beanstack."

This week’s Kindness Matters Monday recognition goes to a student who is always kind to everyone and constantly offers a helping hand. There isn’t just one specific moment—Amanda shows kindness every single day.
She is always smiling, even when she isn’t feeling well, and if anyone in the classroom—including the teacher—needs help, she jumps in without even being asked.
Amanda was nominated by Mrs. Boyd who said it is truly an honor to recognize her for Kindness Matters Monday.

📚🐾 Hard to believe we’re in the final push of the 2025–2026 school year! 🐾📚

Our Beanstack reading challenges for the rest of the year are officially up and ready to go live each month, and we hope all of our cubs are ready to step up to the challenge!

📅 January Read with Benny Challenge Reminder:
Cubs have until Saturday to log their reading and reach 400 minutes to earn their brag tag and a Nothing Bundt Cake certificate for a FREE bundtlet! 🧁
✨ Just 25 minutes a night, Monday–Thursday or 20 minutes a night Sunday-Thursday and they’ll have meet the goal!

📖 What’s coming up next?

❤️ February – Black History Month Challenge
We’ll be highlighting African American authors, illustrators, and main characters in the Media Center.

March – Read Across America Challenge
Join us on March 4th to read in your Cub’s classroom! Remember—all books read to students count toward the challenge too.

💙 April – Library Love Challenge
National School Library Day is April 4th and National Library Week is this month as well!

🍎 May – Teacher Appreciation Month Challenge
What better way to thank our teachers than by reading and showing how much they’ve helped us grow this year?

🏅 Cubs who meet each challenge will earn a brag tag and bundt cake certificate each month, and at the end of the year we’ll celebrate those who met their goals for the majority of the months!

We can’t believe we’re already in the second half of the school year, but we are SO proud of the time, effort, and love of reading our cubs have shown! 📚🐾

Let’s keep it going—happy reading! 💙

Today we celebrated all of the hard work our students have put in over the last 102 days at a school-wide assembly! 🎉📚

We recognized students on the A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, and celebrated the progress and growth made in iReady.

Teachers whose classes made lots of progress spun the prize wheel for their students to receive prizes and students who have been showing lots of growth even earned the chance to duct tape our principal, Mrs. Martin, to the wall—what a highlight! 😄

We are so incredibly proud of every member of our pack. Keep up the amazing work! 🐾💙

Message to Families about Possible Severe Weather Conditions

Dear DCSS Family,

The Douglas County School System is working with State and County Emergency Management Officials to monitor the potential for severe winter weather in our area this weekend. At this time, we are canceling all Douglas County School System events for Saturday and Sunday. Legacy Arena will communicate any event changes through its communications channels.

The process of making a decision about school closings or delays involves extensive monitoring of forecasts and road conditions. Decisions are made based on information we receive from several weather forecasting sources, law enforcement, and our Transportation Department's assessments of road conditions across the county.

The Douglas County School System expects to have a decision made by 5 p.m. when possible about any changes to the following school day or adjustments to after-school activities or athletic events. If necessary, we will provide an additional update by 9 p.m. that night. If road conditions change overnight, expect an additional communication by 5 a.m.

When the decision is made to close school or issue delays, the Douglas County School System will begin notifying parents and employees immediately using SchoolMessenger. Details will also be posted immediately on our website at dcssga.org and on our Facebook page. The Douglas County School System will also provide closing or delayed opening information to local news media outlets.

We will continue working to ensure the safety of our students by closely tracking weather conditions. We appreciate your understanding as we continue prioritizing the safety of our school community.

Mrs. Weidner’s kindergarteners celebrated a huge milestone today: the 100th Day of School! 🎈 Our little learners headed to the STEM lab to put their math skills to the test. They practiced counting 100 LEGOs by 10s and then let their imaginations run wild building unique creations with all 100 bricks! 🧱🏗️

We are so proud of how much these students have grown since day one. Here’s to 80 more days of learning and fun!
