☀️ DCSS to Reopen Tuesday Following Winter Weather Closure

The Douglas County School System and the Douglas County Emergency Management Agency have been closely monitoring weather and road conditions over the past several days. The winter weather event that caused Monday's closure has moved out of our area, and safer road conditions have returned.

As a result, all schools and offices will resume normal operations on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

All regular schedules, including before- and after-school activities, will operate as normal. Our administrators and the district operations department will continue to monitor conditions at all schools and will alert us immediately if conditions change.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritized the safety of our students and staff. We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow.

❄️ IMPORTANT: Douglas County Schools to Close Monday, January 26, 2026
(Desplácese hacia abajo para leer el mensaje en español.)

Due to severe winter weather approaching our area, the Douglas County School System will close all schools on Monday, January 26, 2026. All extracurricular and athletic events are also canceled on Monday. Students will not report to school. Only essential employees should report to their locations.

The decision to close the school district on Monday comes after days of careful consideration of National Weather Service (NWS) reports and guidance from Governor Brian Kemp’s current statewide State of Emergency.

To stay informed of updates, we encourage families to check their email, follow our district Facebook page, check dcssga.org for the latest information, and verify that their contact details are up to date in Infinite Campus.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend and will communicate any changes through these official notification channels.

Expect another update by 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, regarding the status of Tuesday, January 27, 2026. At that time, we will announce any additional changes to Tuesday’s schedule, as well as any needed adjustments to after-school activities or athletic events.

Thank you for your continued flexibility and understanding as we prioritize both safety during this severe weather event.

Kindness Matters Monday! 💙

Today we are celebrating a student who showed that even small actions can make a big difference. When a classmate accidentally dropped all of his supplies, Dieara immediately stepped in to help pick everything up without hesitation.

Her willingness to help a peer is a wonderful example of the kindness we love to see in our Wolf Cub community. 🐺

She was nominated by Mrs. Johnson for showing such a thoughtful act of kindness. Way to go, Dieara! 👏

Students in Ms. Wiggleton’s class had the perfect day for a STEM experiment! 🧪✨

They created homemade lava lamps, observing how oil and colored water separate before adding fizzy tablets to create bubbling reactions that sent colorful swirls floating through their bottles. 🌈🫧

This hands-on activity helped students explore density, chemical reactions, and how liquids interact—all while having a lot of fun with science! 🔬🚀

Things have been very busy around here, and we have been so fortunate to have an amazing turnout for Read Across America and Book Fair week!

We’ll be sharing a big recap at the end of the week to highlight all the wonderful moments, but today we want to give a very special shoutout to our anonymous donors who saw our post about contributing to Share the Fair.

Because of your generosity, several of our students who may not have been able to shop the Book Fair were able to pick out some amazing books to take home. Your kindness truly made the day for some very special Wolf Cubs.

Thank you for helping us spread the joy of reading! 📚💙

Today’s Kindness Matters Monday student shows how small actions make a big difference.
Jazlyn saw a piece of cornbread on the hallway floor. Instead of walking around it, she picked it up and threw it in the trash, helping keep our school clean and safe for everyone.
She was nominated by Mrs. Slatton for showing responsibility and kindness.
Way to go Jazlyn.

And excitement was building - you could hear it when we speak!

The Book Fair is set with stories to share,
Colorful covers and new worlds everywhere.

Our dress-up days are planned - including Spirit Day fun,
And guest readers are ready to share books with everyone.

Snacks are prepared, schedules are tight,
We’re counting the hours with pure delight!

We can’t wait to show our Wolf Cubs next week
That a whole community believes reading is something special to seek -

A lot is happening on each and every day, so don't be late

🌟 Greatness Is What We Do Next.
Our students are learning to recognize their own growth, celebrate progress, and take pride in their learning—not for rewards, but for themselves. That’s how lifelong learners are made. 💪📚
💬 Here’s what our 1st grade students have to say…

Jayde - "I like learning because it makes me smarter and smarter. We have fun learning by playing games and going up to the board. Doing calendar math is my favorite thing. I want to keep learning so I can go to college."

Lincoln - "I like learning because it makes me smart. It's fun because Mrs. Sweeney likes to celebrate when we get things correct. I want to keep learning so I can get as smart as I can."

Ella - "I like learning because it's fun! My teacher makes it fun by letting us play games, read books, and use blocks to learn. I want to keep learning because it's my favorite thing to do!"

Yesterday we were honored to celebrate the 33-year career of a truly wonderful educator, Mrs. Janice Parker!

For more than three decades, she loved every student who walked through her door as if they were her own. She taught them that hard work matters — even when things aren’t easy — and reminded them that they are worthy of every good thing this world has to offer.

Thank you, Mrs. Parker, for your unwavering dedication and the countless lives you have touched over the years. Your impact will be felt for generations to come.

We hope you enjoy every minute of your well-deserved retirement! 💛📚

Mrs. Johnson’s class has officially concluded their Classroom Olympics unit!

Students designed and participated in three winter sporting events: figure skating, speed skating, and bobsledding. As part of the project, they also collected data and graphed the different medal counts earned by each country, exploring multiple ways to represent their findings.

This engaging, hands-on experience allowed students to build skills in teamwork, creativity, and data analysis. We are proud to share that in their classroom, every student earned “gold” through their effort and dedication. 🥇

Well done to all of our outstanding Olympic learners!

📈 Greatness Is What We Do Next.
When students reflect on their progress and set personal goals, they discover that growth is something they create. Confidence grows when learning comes from within. ✨
💬 Listen to our 4th grade students share how they have seen their own growth this year…

Kendra - "I know I've grown in math because my grades have improved from the beginning of the year. I knew I wanted to get better at fractions and my scores in iReady show that I have!"

Xavier - "I know I've grown in reading because the goals I've set for myself have caused my grades to go up and my iReady scores to soar."

Sarai - "I know I've grown in writing because my teachers have inspired me and let me read more which also inspires my writing. I know I've grown because even a 5th grade teacher has read my writing and told her students to write like me."
