First grade students learned about Sonia Sotomayor in STEM for Hispanic Heritage Month. They learned that she was the first Hispanic woman to become a Supreme Court Judge. They also learned that she loved books. Then they worked on their teamwork skills and built a Tower of Knowledge using a limited number of index cards and some books.

Mr. Marshman's class had an awesome zoom visit with a scientist this week! He is a research meteorologist that specializes in hurricanes. Students were able to learn about what hurricane hunters do and see first hand what they are learning about weather in action!

Congratulations to Mrs. Slatton and Mrs. Anthony who were both recipients of a School Impact Grant! Mrs. Slatton for Migrating Monarchs and Mrs. Anthony for Hands on STEM! The Douglas County Education Foundation offers Classroom Impact Grants awarded on a competitive basis to teachers at all grade levels, the foundation makes it possible to offer programs, projects, equipment, and enrichment opportunities that are not available through state funds alone.
