Message to Families about Possible Severe Weather Conditions
Dear DCSS Family,
The Douglas County School System is working with State and County Emergency Management Officials to monitor the potential for severe winter weather in our area this weekend. At this time, we are canceling all Douglas County School System events for Saturday and Sunday. Legacy Arena will communicate any event changes through its communications channels.
The process of making a decision about school closings or delays involves extensive monitoring of forecasts and road conditions. Decisions are made based on information we receive from several weather forecasting sources, law enforcement, and our Transportation Department's assessments of road conditions across the county.
The Douglas County School System expects to have a decision made by 5 p.m. when possible about any changes to the following school day or adjustments to after-school activities or athletic events. If necessary, we will provide an additional update by 9 p.m. that night. If road conditions change overnight, expect an additional communication by 5 a.m.
When the decision is made to close school or issue delays, the Douglas County School System will begin notifying parents and employees immediately using SchoolMessenger. Details will also be posted immediately on our website at dcssga.org and on our Facebook page. The Douglas County School System will also provide closing or delayed opening information to local news media outlets.
We will continue working to ensure the safety of our students by closely tracking weather conditions. We appreciate your understanding as we continue prioritizing the safety of our school community.

We were so excited to welcome back Mrs. Julie from GYSTC this week! She visited Mrs. Boyd’s 5th-grade class during STEM for a bright, hands-on lesson on microorganisms using "Glow Germs." 🦠
Our students got to see exactly how germs spread by applying "fake germs" and putting their cleaning skills to the test. They compared hand washing vs. hand sanitizer to see which one truly reigns supreme! 🧼🚿
A huge thank you to GYSTC and Mrs. Julie for making science so interactive and fun—especially during this time of year when staying healthy is top of mind! ❤️

This week in our Media Center lessons, we are learning all about braille! Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades are listening to Llama, Llama Red Pajama while getting to look at a copy and what Braille code looks like. Ms. Marks, one of our visually impaired teachers is joining 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades to teach students all about Braille and how individuals who are visually impaired read using the Braille code.
Today, she even had an awesome helper, Izzy, who Brailled the name of every student in her class—what an amazing hands-on learning experience! ✨

We are looking for a variety of careers to spark our students' curiosity. We especially encourage presentations that include:
Demonstrations: Show us the tools of your trade!
Hands-on Activities: Give students a "day in the life" experience through a small task or interactive project.
How It Works
To allow as many students as possible to learn from you, the morning will be organized into rotations:
Session Length: 25 minutes per class.
Transition: 5 minutes between sessions to prepare for the next group.
Setting: You will remain in one classroom while different groups of students rotate to you. A whiteboard will be available for your presentation.
Ready to inspire our Wolf Cubs?
If you are interested in participating or have questions about how your career might fit, please contact Sarah Anthony our amazing STEM teacher!

Celebrate Read Across America with us! Your child’s class would love for you to share the joy of reading—it only takes 10 minutes, but the memory will last a lifetime. 💛 If you are unable to attend in person, we can set up a Google Meet with their classroom!
Come inspire a love of reading—one story at a time!

Our students became active investigators as they sang catchy songs to learn molecular structures and worked to classify various items as solids, liquids, or gases. The excitement reached a peak as the class experimented with physical changes and witnessed the fascinating world of chemical reactions firsthand.
We are incredibly grateful to Mrs. Julie and GYSTC for partnering with us to make science come alive at Mason Creek. These high-impact STEM experiences are essential in fostering a lifelong love for exploration and innovation in our students.

Would your Wolf Cub like to try out for the spring musical? Students can shine on stage as part of the cast or perform with the orchestra. We’d love to see their talents! Try outs are next Thursday, the 15th! Scan the QR code to sign them up!

November was our best attendance month of the school year so far! We recorded 397 tardies and 315 absences, which is a great improvement.
In December, we did see an increase due to seasonal illnesses, with 493 tardies and 465 absences.
As we kick off 2026, our goal is to beat November’s numbers and make attendance even better! 🎉
Parents—your support makes all the difference. Helping students arrive each day and on time truly sets them up for success.
At the same time, please remember: if your child has a fever in the morning, it’s best to keep them home to prevent spreading illness.
Thank you for partnering with us—we know we can do this together! 💙
